Yay! It's Retainer Time!
Below is some advice on how to care for your retainers.
ALWAYS
First and foremost, follow all retention instructions given to you, by your orthodontist. They will instruct you on the proper amount of wear for your individual case.
Bring your retainer with you to follow up orthodontic visits. Call if you are experiencing any problems , such as too tight, too loose, or broken retainers.
Keep your retainers clean and fresh. Its extremely important to cleanse your retainers fully to prevent bacteria and germs from accumulating on them. You may brush them with a soft bristle brush and a mild soap. Do not soak in mouthwash or bleach, as they contain chemicals that can break down the plastics. Our lab recommends Steraligner, as it is safe for all dental appliances and will clean and sanitize in 3 minutes.

NEVER
Do not wrap your retainer in a napkin and set it down, odds are it will end up in the trash.
Do not put it in your pocket or purse, it can be damaged, place them only in your retainer box.
Do not boil, microwave, or leave them in a hot car. Heat can warp your appliances.
Do not store them anywhere in the reach of pets. Dogs love the smell of your retainers and they think its a yummy snack for them. They can quickly destroy them in just a few bites.
Keep that beautiful smile, wear your retainers!
